“Bulky waste collection via Internet”

The Groningen Environmental Department sees to the orderly collection and processing of waste in the district of Groningen, including the diverse and complex disposal of commercial waste. Regular household, garden, kitchen waste is picked up from over 85,000 households. The Environmental Department also serves as the point of contact for any specific questions that civilians or companies may have regarding waste and the environment, from pest control to hygiene in the hospitality industry and from graffiti removal to slipperiness control.

The challenge
Richard Bakker, senior information manager with the Environmental Department: “When it comes to innovations, the Groningen Environmental Department is always at the forefront. The challenges facing us were enormous. Together with GMT, we worked on achieving more efficiency in the bulky waste pickup programme, the digital waste calendar and the reduction of fraud at the waste dump station. We then developed a single central system for civilian and company registration through web services. CLEAR lends itself perfectly for this, particularly due to its broad applicability. It is for this precise reason that we have been using it since 1997.”
